Is cancer hereditary?
Is cancer hereditary? The answer is yes but it is not. To understand this we must remember that there are many kinds of cancer, and having family members affected by this disease is only in some cases, a certain willingness to endure it. Recent medical studies indicate that the percentage of cases of cancer due to a genetic defect is only between five and ten percent. Is estimated at about 40 the number of genes that may be associated with predisposition to develop the same type of cancer than immediate family. Advances in human genome research will be published in a future a person’s likelihood of developing certain diseases, which will help prevent them.
People whose parents have suffered certain types of tumors are more likely “or” inherited susceptibility to develop similar tumors, but are not irretrievably doomed to it. For women, cancers that are inherited are those of breast and the ovary. Hereditary cancers of the colon and rectum are more common in men. Hereditary cancer is considered when a particular type of this disease? E.g. breast cancer – in several members of the same family for generations. Another feature of hereditary cancer that manifests itself is considered an early age for this condition is say, between 40 and 50 years.
Child Audiology: Hearing aids or implants for children
The child audiology is the exploration of hearing loss in children and infants, mainly differentiated adult audiology in the methodology used for the screening and diagnosis. This type of examination should be carried out by audiologists who specialize in prosthetic fitting of hearing aids or cochlear implants in children, still needed two professionals in each session for a proper exploration until the child reaches at least 5 years. The performance of audiometric testing children is conditioned by the child’s age and attention span, concentration, motor skills, etc.
We also highlight the achievement of objective evidence such as Steady state evoked potentials and otoacoustic emissions that are normally performed in hospitals at birth and does not require the active participation of the child. We can differentiate the hearing screening for infants with risk factors. In recent years there is a universal screening to all newborns as in most Autonomous Communities in Spain by objective evidence, Evoked Potentials and Otoacoustic Emissions to help detect problems conductive or sensorineural hearing loss in infants without risk factors above. Despite screening, there are cases that go undetected hearing problems, and they can begin to be visible in the months following the different stages of development.
Misconceptions abound about cancer
Most people around the world have substantial misconceptions about what causes cancer, new research suggests. The results of a survey presented at the World Cancer Congress of the International Union against Cancer (UICC) in Geneva, found that most people tend to exaggerate the threat of environmental factors and minimize the threat of behaviors that are risk factors well-established cancer. 29.925 The cancer researchers interviewed people in 29 countries last year to compare data on the perception of cancer risk factors among high-income countries, middle and low.
Among the cancer researcher’s findings was the fact that people in high income countries were less likely to think that drinking alcohol increases the risk of cancer, when in fact, cancer risk increases with alcohol intake. Specifically, 42 percent of people in high income countries said alcohol does not increase the risk, compared with 26 percent in middle-income countries and 15 percent in low income countries. Another finding was that most people in high income countries felt that not eating enough fruits and vegetables was more risky than drinking alcohol. The truth is that the evidence supporting the protective effect of vegetable consumption is less potent than the evidence that alcohol intake is harmful.
